Import from CSV

If you have a CSV file containing transactions in mutual funds or stocks, you can import transaction from it into the application.

Currently only investments and redemptions are supported; positive values are taken as investment/purchase and negative values are taken as redemption/sale.

It is recommended to take backup before importing data so that you can revert to old state if you are unsatisfied with the result.

In order to import data from a CSV file: -

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the My Portfolio - India app.
  2. In the top left, tap Menu.
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Tap Import CSV.
  5. Another activity Import CSV shall start. Proceed as detailed in Import CSV activity workflow.
  6. Application shall now import data from the selected CSV file.

Import CSV activity workflow

Import CSV workflow is divided into four steps, detailed below: -

Step 1: Select file

Here you select the operation you want to perform (i.e. either import transactions in mutual funds or stocks) and file to read transactions from.

  1. Tap on Import Transactions in Mutual Funds or Import Transactions in Stocks as desired.
  2. Another activity Open from shall start.
  3. Locate the CSV file and tap on it.

Step 2: Map columns

Here you map the columns present in the CSV file with the columns expected by the application. For example, if the date column in the CSV file is named as Transaction Date, then you shall select Transaction Date under Column for date. Note that the application will preselect values as it deems fit; the user needs to make sure that the application has indeed selected correct columns and, if needed, change them. CSV file must contain columns for mutual fund scheme/stock name, date, amount, NAV/price and units.

Afterwards, tap (at top right) to move to next step.

Step 3: Map scheme/stock names

Here you map the mutual fund scheme/stock names present in the CSV file with the names understood by the application. Since scheme/stock name in the application may be different from what present in CSV file, every text box is pre-filled with (operative parts of) scheme/stock name found in the CSV file and the user must tap on (at the end of text box) and select an entry from the list.

If there is no entry shown in the drop-down list, you may try editing the text box to make the search term less restrictive. Only scheme/stocks which have been selected this way shall be imported.

After selecting an entry for every scheme/stock in the screen, tap (at top right) to move to next step.

Step 4: Summary

Summary shows a summary of transactions in the CSV file.

If there is a message like “xx transactions shall not be imported since no corresponding scheme/stock name was selected/found”, it means that you have not selected a scheme/stock name as indicated in Step 3 explained above.

Portfolio shows the portfolio in which the transactions shall be imported. All transactions already existing in the portfolio shall be preserved.

Tap (at top right) to import the transactions. A message shall be shown whether the operation completed successfully or not.
